2.) Media Literacy Development - The goal of the media literacy curriculum must be to develop a literate person who is able to read, analyze, evaluate, and produce communications in a variety of media (print, TV, computers, the arts, etc.).
Most often, "the media" are lumped together as a single entity. But "the media" are actually many forms of communication...including newspapers, magazines, and billboards, radio, television, movies, video games, and computer games.

Our youth are born into and live in a world that is connected. From television commercials, to print advertising, images in magazines, to food product packages, movies, the Internet, music/radio/mp3, and more, our youth are being bombarded continuously with media messages. These messages tell them how to act, how to walk, how to dance, how to speak, how to behave, what to buy, what to eat, and even what they should look like. Just because children are exposed to the bombardment of messages in our media-saturated world, and just because they know how to access the Internet and social media web sites, does not mean that they are media literate.
Students must be taught how to analyze, evaluate, assess and create media messages. Students should not be only consumers of media, but producers as well. This program will help students to become critical, intelligent consumers of media messages, and will also enable them to participate in social media wisely and safely. Finally, students will learn how to create personal and social change thorough the development of products in a variety of media.
Media literacy is a skill that can, and should, be easily integrated into the regular curriculum.
